Bogota, Colombia. 23 March, 2022 – To pool efforts and achieve a low-carbon future GeoPark has joined the second phase of Colombia’s National Carbon Neutrality Program, which is headed by the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development and seeks to invigorate and strengthen public and private organizations’ greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions management.
With more than 500 other organizations and to join forces in building sustainable and low-carbon growth, GeoPark will participate in discussions on GHG measurement and management and good organizational practices. In these sessions participants will be able to further align organizations with the E2050 Long-Term Climate Strategy through which Colombia is aiming for carbon neutrality.
“We are pleased to participate in this National Government program that will allow us to contribute, learn and put into practice initiatives with which we will continue to reduce our impact on the
environment,” GeoPark environmental manager Fabiola Pena said. “We are convinced that publicprivate articulation is decisive for the implementation of effective actions that allow us to generate real changes in the short and long term.”
By taking part in the program, GeoPark takes one more step towards its objective of building a more sustainable future, guaranteeing the low carbon intensity of its operations.
In November 2021 GeoPark announced its GHG Emissions Reduction Strategy in which it set short, medium, and long-term goals and actions to consolidate a more responsible, cleaner, and more
resilient portfolio. With this ambitious plan that includes actions such as the interconnection of the Llanos 34 block to the national power grid and the construction of a photovoltaic solar plant –
projects that will be operational in the first half of 2022 – the Company seeks to reduce its emissions intensity by at least 35% by 2025.
GeoPark will continue to meet the highest standards to ensure that it protects the environment while producing energy, generating value for all its stakeholders, and decisively contributing to
meeting the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
