GeoPark takes part in SPE tree planting project in Quito

Quito, Ecuador – March 16, 2021

GeoPark recently took part in the first two days of the ‘Reforestation for Positive Carbon’ tree planting project in Ecuador, organized by the local chapter of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and which aims to plant 10,000 trees.

GeoPark and nine other participating organizations received a plaque of appreciation from the Sustainable Forestry Management Corporation (COMAFORS) and the Alangasi community for their work in planting more than 1,500 native and exotic trees on the Ilalo volcano in Quito.

“It is very pleasant to take part in this project, which demonstrates the oil and gas sector’s commitment to Ecuador’s sustainable development,” GeoPark Nature and Neighbors manager Maria Gabriela Moreta said. “Our thanks go to SPE and COMAFORS for leading projects that let us demonstrate our commitment to the environment and contribute decisively to the fulfillment of the United Nations 2030 Agenda.”

GeoPark will continue working together with its partners to contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions and mitigate the effects of climate change in the territories where it operates.
