- 1,300 inhabitants in Caribayona, Villanueva will benefit from a new sewerage system and domestic wastewater treatment plant, a basic sanitation project financed by mandatory environmental investment
- The project is 92% complete and will be delivered in May-June 2025
Together with the Villanueva Mayor’s Office, we have started the process of connecting a new sewerage system and domestic wastewater treatment plant to improve basic sanitation in the town of Caribayona. The infrastructure, financed by mandatory environmental investment, will benefit more than 1,300 inhabitants by guaranteeing the correct treatment of wastewater.
The sewerage system and treatment plant will improve water quality in the Tua river basin, contributing to better health conditions in the community and the conservation of local ecosystems. Villanueva company Maboh has reached 92% completion of the project, which starts the technical and stabilization testing stage in the next few weeks. The project will be officially handed over to the Villanueva Mayor’s Office and the community of Caribayona in May or June 2025.
“The wastewater treatment plant is a fundamental step in the development of Caribayona. Thanks to the joint work with GeoPark, we have started the connection phase to receive this project that will improve the living conditions of our community and contribute to the protection of water resources. The Mayor’s Office is continuing its work to guarantee that the project works as planned and provides long-term benefit for everyone,” said Camilo Reina, Secretary of Public Works of Villanueva Mayor’s Office.
For his part, our Nature and Neighbors Manager Anibal Fernandez de Soto said: “Fulfilling this investment commitment is an example of what we can achieve when we work together. This project is the result of coordination between the community of Caribayona, Villanueva Mayor’s Office, GeoPark, ANLA and Corporinoquia. It gives us great satisfaction to reach this final stage and know that very soon it will provide better living conditions for Caribayona families.”
With the completion of construction and the start of technical and stabilization tests, Caribayona will soon have a solution to properly collect and treat its domestic wastewater, marking a local milestone and underscoring our commitment and that of the Villanueva Mayor’s Office to sustainable development in the area.
