Harps, joropo music, alpargatas (flat, canvas shoes) and the cuatro (a stringed guitar-like instrument) are key parts of the Llanera culture from Colombia’s eastern plains, the Llanos Orientales. In line with its principles of good neighborliness and to promote the education and future of children from its neighboring communities, through its subsidiary La nueva Amerisur has donated study kits to 1,655 schoolchildren at rural and urban public schools in Puerto Asis and Puerto Guzman. 

To create safe spaces for children and adolescents in Putumayo, the National Batuta Foundation and GeoPark, through its subsidiary ‘la nueva Amerisur’, will continue a project to teach string orchestra music to 80 young learners in Puerto Asis, in classrooms and online.

To promote quality education and stop children and adolescents dropping out of school, GeoPark is supporting the ‘Learn at Home’ program of Tauramena Mayor’s Office by donating 500 electronic tablets for children in primary and secondary schools in the municipality.

GeoPark recently took part in the first two days of the ‘Reforestation for Positive Carbon’ tree planting project in Ecuador, organized by the local chapter of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and which aims to plant 10,000 trees.

Through its commitment to being a good neighbor and wanting to help strengthen its neighbors’ food supplies, GeoPark is supporting a local government
project in Shushufindi, Ecuador to create a nursery that will grow plants for up to 350 families.
