Promoting environmental transparency through community meetings in Casanare

Casanare, Colombia

These public spaces gave information about the Company’s environmental management, including biodiversity conservation initiatives, water management, and fulfilling the terms of environmental licenses.

To promote transparency and access to information, and to open dialogue with communities and authorities, we held community meetings at our Cuéntame offices in Villanueva and Tauramena, in Casanare department. The meetings outlined our environmental management and allowed attendees to express their concerns directly.

Our Nature and Neighbors team presented detailed information on mandatory and voluntary environmental investments, highlighting animal protection initiatives, responsible water management, environmental compensation, and compliance with the environmental license. Reflecting our commitment to fully complying with regulations and our openness to supervision processes, we also shared details about the most recent visits of the National Environmental Licensing Authority (ANLA) to the Llanos 34 block.

The meetings were interactive, with participants being able to visit different information posts detailing our environmental actions. We presented the Environmental Transparency Portal, a digital tool to access updated information on our projects, and on the topic of managing and protecting water we demonstrated the water reinjection process in our operations. We also shared initiatives for biodiversity conservation, species monitoring and protecting local animal life.

The meetings ended with opportunities for our neighbors and representatives of local authorities to voice their questions, opinions and expectations. “Transparency is key to strengthening trust with our neighbors,” our Environmental Manager Fabiola Pena said at the end of these meetings. “That is why, in addition to opening the doors of our Cuéntame offices to explain and share information about our environmental management, we launched the Environmental Transparency Portal, where everyone can access updated information on our environmental management in Colombia.”

The meetings underscore our commitment to Good Neighborliness and increase participation, access to information, and transparent communication with our neighboring communities. Through dialogue and joint work, we promote solutions that contribute to the development of the territories where we operate.
