We have given 412 high-quality musical instruments and elements to the municipality of Villanueva, Casanare, to help set up the Municipal Symphonic Band. This joint effort with the Villaneuva Mayor’s Office offers personal development through music to young people in the area, while strengthening community identity and promoting cultural development and the virtuous use of free time.
Officials from the Mayor’s Office, community leaders and local media joined us in the donation ceremony in Villanueva’s Central Park. The initiative was made possible by an investment of almost 500 million pesos as part of our social investment strategy, which focuses on improving the living conditions of neighboring communities through projects that facilitate access to education and create development opportunities.
For Villanueva Mayor Dr. Hector Vizcaino, the project reflects the synergy between the municipal administration and the private sector for the benefit of the community. “With the creation of the Municipal Symphonic Band, we hope that the children and young people of Villanueva will find a space where they can express themselves, grow and contribute to the strengthening of our cultural identity,” Dr. Vizcaino said. “We thank GeoPark for responding to our request and making this idea a reality. This delivery is an investment in the future of our youth and our community.”
“This project is a true reflection of our commitment to be Good Neighbors in the communities where we operate,” our Nature and Neighbors Manager Anibal Fernandez de Soto said, highlighting the importance of the project. “We are proud to contribute these 412 instruments and elements that will enable the young people of Villanueva to find through music a personal development pathway. At GeoPark, we truly believe in the transformative power of education and culture, which are key in improving the living conditions of our neighboring communities.”
Together with the Mayor’s Office, we have a shared goal of promoting local culture and providing young people in Villanueva with an opportunity to use their free time healthily, and the project shows how local institutions and the private sector can work together to build a more prosperous future for Colombia’s regions.
