To proudly underscore our commitment to improving living conditions in Casanare and to mark the International Day of Education, we announced the donation of almost 2,000 study kits to children in our neighboring communities in Villanueva and Tauramena, giving them the necessary materials to start the academic year.
This initiative reflects the comprehensive vision that we have nurtured throughout our involvement in the region, based on the conviction that education is the engine of sustainable development. This year, the study kits focus on local biodiversity, promoting knowledge and protection of animal life and fostering a sense of belonging. The kits include ecological notebooks featuring pictures taken by local photographers of animals in the area, a backpack, pencil case and a set of rulers made from recyclable materials, a thermos, and other items designed to support sustainable learning.
In addition to providing study kits every year, we have carried out educational projects that have positively impacted thousands of schoolchildren in the region. These projects include:
- Giving university scholarships to 20 Casanare students, allowing them to access university education and empowering new generations to lead regional development.
- Equipping schools in Casanare as a matter of priority. We have allocated some 6 billion pesos through the Works for Taxes mechanism to improve the educational infrastructure in Casanare, benefiting more than 4,600 children.
- A partnership with the Escuela Nueva Foundation to strengthen rural education in seven CRIEET schools in Tauramena through innovative methodologies that benefit more than 530 students in neighboring communities. We also opened the first Green Classroom in Tauramena, which was designed to promote learning through contact with nature, emphasizing to students and their families sustainability and environmental protection.
“At GeoPark, we firmly believe that education is the foundation for building more equitable and prosperous societies. Our commitment to creating and sharing prosperity is reflected in projects we develop to encourage access, permanence and quality of education in the territories where we operate,” our Nature and Neighbors manager Anibal Fernandez de Soto said. “By carrying out transformative initiatives, we aim to help improve living conditions for our neighboring communities.”
In making social investments to support the progress of people in Casanare, we will continue to lead this type of initiative every year, contributing to the sustainable development in all the territories where we operate.
