Underscoring our commitment to road safety

Bogotá, Colombia
December 13, 2024

Safety has been a critical pillar of our integrated values system and sustainability vision since we were founded in 2002, and through our ‘I Bet on Road Safety’ program we continue to promote safe road use in Casanare, Meta and Putumayo departments, the departments in Colombia where we have operations.

In 2024, our significant road safety progress included:

  • Delivering over 200 teaching activities aimed at drivers, passengers, pedestrians and the community to prevent vehicle incidents on roads near operations.
  • Enhancing standards for lifting, special transport, dangerous goods, dry cargo, non-hazardous liquids and construction machinery, to mitigate road safety risks.
  • Implementing an incentive and sanction program to reinforce best practices and correct unsafe behaviors on roads.
  • Holding 100 preventive campaigns to promote a culture of road safety focused on the use of seat belts, respect for speed limits, vehicle inspection and other key issues.

“Our commitment to road safety goes further than the rules,” our Health and Safety Manager Carlos Gomez said. “GeoPark aims to help change the behavior of all road users to build a culture of respect and road safety. In this way, we honor our purpose of people returning home safely and healthily.”

To continue promoting safe road use, at an event in early December we highlighted the work of more than 50 cargo and special transport drivers and five partner companies that have actively contributed to promoting safe practices on the roads.

This end-of-year holiday season, we join the authorities’ call for all road users to respect traffic regulations, drive responsibly, not to use distractions during their journeys and to not drive after consuming alcohol or psychoactive substances.
