We categorically reject the stigmatization of community members in Villanueva and accusations made against them, as well as any insinuation attempting to connect us to threats against social leaders and human rights defenders.
We are committed to respecting, protecting and promoting human rights in all our operations, and we base our work on the principles of dialogue, transparency and building trust with our neighbouring communities. We condemn any kind of unfounded accusation that contravenes these values, and we reiterate our willingness to keeping channels of communication open to address concerns respectfully and constructively.
We call on the entire community of Villanueva to channel concerns and needs through peaceful mechanisms of respect and dialogue, avoiding stigmatization of any kind or any action that could threaten people’s safety.
We have informed the relevant authorities about this situation for them to take the actions they consider appropriate.
