Casanare, September 17, 2024 – Committed to promoting the sustainable development and well-being of our neighboring communities, we have proudly donated connectivity kits to 30 families in Punta del Guira, Casanare to improve their living conditions and significantly enhance their digital inclusion.
We work with Wifi Colombia on this project, which has already connected more than 100 users to the Internet. We firmly believe that improving connectivity in rural areas promotes equal opportunities and development for communities, as each kit provides Internet access that provides users with information, education and opportunities for personal and professional development.
“Our community needed this because we are a long way from the urban area of Tauramena. Now we have more options to communicate with our families and to run our livestock activities as well,” said Edgar Lopez, president of the Punta del Guira Community Action Board. “Customers no longer have to come to us to see cattle; we can skip the need to travel by sending a video and it’s easier to move negotiations forward. This is a good community project because it benefits us all,” he added.
Internet connectivity also allows entrepreneurs to manage their businesses more efficiently, benefitting the local economy. Local businesswoman Idali Cortes highlighted the importance of Internet access in running her company, saying: “The Internet is critical to our work, especially administration. We pay workers and invoice digitally, without leaving the farm. In the same way, we promote the financial inclusion of our employees.”
It is exciting for us that these kits also contribute to our neighbors’ education. “We use the Internet to be in the WhatsApp parents’ group at school and keep up with the news. My son also uses it to download the platforms he needs, and I connect to see newsletters,” said Maria Yaneth Maldonado, a mother who lives in Punta del Guira. “If there is a language or subject that my son wants to learn, we can search for it on the Internet and access it for free.”
This kind of initiative underscores our commitment to work closely with our neighbors to help improve their quality of life through high-impact projects, enabling us to support the development of the territories we operate in.
